Provincial funding of nearly $1.2 million is being provided to 64 organizations, including fire departments and search and rescue teams. The money will go towards rescue equipment, water supply, and protective gear. Minister John Lohr recognizes the dedication of volunteer first responders and their recent heroic efforts during the floods. The province is also implementing measures to improve emergency response, including the distribution of 2,000 new two-way radios and a pilot program to support the mental health of first responders. Additionally, the Nova Scotia Guard, a volunteer corps, will assist communities during crises and disasters.
