NS Senator Dies

Donald Oliver, the first Black man appointed to the Senate of Canada, has died. Born in Wolfville, he served 23 years in the Red Chamber. His family says he passed away on Wednesday from a chronic heart condition. Premier Tim Houston says Nova Scotia was lucky to have someone of his calibre and integrity representing us on the national stage. Before being appointed to the Senate, Oliver was a key figure in the creation of the Black Cultural Centre for Nova Scotia. He was 86.
