The John Howard Society of Nova Scotia has responded to community concerns about Cedar Place in Bridgewater. In a lengthy social media post, the organization acknowledged concerns of finding used needles, seeing individuals under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and experiencing instances of poor behaviour in the vicinity of the building and said it shares the concern about the safety of everyone in Bridgewater. The organization clarified its role in the community as a facility that offers support for people experiencing homelessness. It offers showers and laundry facilities, clean clothing, addiction and mental health support and nutritious meals. The statement also asks for dignity, respect and support for the people that use the facility while “they strive to overcome trauma and addiction.” It closes with a pledge to continue to listen to the community's concerns “working alongside you to create balanced solutions that benefit everyone in Bridgewater.” To read the entire statement, you can find it here: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100067519212387
