The provincial NDP is firing back after being accused of failing to show up at this week’s meeting of the Standing Committee on Community Services by the Progressive Conservatives. The Nova Scotia Guard was the focus of the meeting. In a statement to Go Rock, the NDP says the caucus was storm-stayed in Cape Breton on Monday and were ready to attend the committee virtually, but were blocked by government MLAs who voted against allowing them to appear remotely. In a media release, the PCs questioned the NDP's respect for Guard volunteers and their roles as MLAs. The NDP disputes that, saying the Nova Scotia Guard volunteers do “important work in the province, and NDP MLAs value and thank them for their contributions.” The NDP says the Conservatives chose to “misrepresent and criticize the Official Opposition rather than work with them on behalf of all Nova Scotians.”
