Health Canada is out with a statement about using Tylenol during pregnancy. The statement comes after U.S. President Donald Trump made the claim that taking Tylenol during pregnancy can cause autism in a child. The health department says acetaminophen, which is the generic name for Tylenol, can be safely taken for fever and pregnancy, as directed by a doctor and “it should be used at the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration needed.” The statement also read that untreated fever and pain can pose health risks to an unborn child. The department says it has been used safely by millions of Canadians for decades, including during pregnancy and while breastfeeding.
