Slow Down, Move Over

The Nova Scotia RCMP is reminding motorists to slow down and move over when officers are stopped on the side of the road. On July 31st, an RCMP vehicle  was pulled over with its emergency lights on at the side of Highway 103 in Ingramport. Another vehicle passing by sideswiped it, tearing the side mirror off the cruiser and sending it through the windshield of the vehicle the officer had stopped. No one was hurt. The driver of the vehicle, a 41-year-old from Bridgewater, was given a ticket for failing to move over. The RCMP reminds everyone that when approaching a stopped emergency vehicle, motorists must slow down to 60 km/h (or the posted speed limit, whichever is lower) and move over to the lane farthest from the stopped emergency vehicle. On a single-lane road where no extra lane is available, motorists must slow down to 60 km/h (or the posted speed limit, whichever is lower) and pass the emergency vehicle with caution.
