According to a statement from Lunenburg CAO Paul Nopper, Saltwind Transportation Service is no longer licensed to operate under the town’s taxi bylaw. According to Nopper, bylaw enforcement officers identified a Saltwind driver illegally operating without a licence on Thursday afternoon. The driver confirmed they did not have a licence. Bylaw contacted the owner of Saltwind to "educate and gain compliance under the bylaw”. According to Nopper’s statement, the owner became confrontational, but the bylaw officer de-escalated the situation by the end of the call. But the owner of Saltwind then went to town hall, was “confrontational with frontline staff”, and voluntarily resigned all of his taxi licences. In a Facebook post, Saltwind owner Simon Gordon accused the town of slander and said the driver only picked up another employee to drive her across town, and no fare was exchanged; therefore, he said there was no violation of the bylaw. He says they will be looking at legal action against the town.
