Dermo can cause high mortality rates in oysters but poses no health risk to humans, and it just reared its head in this province last week.
The parasite was found in oysters in Merigomish in Pictou County according to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA). The agency said it will be working with producers, harvesters and other partners to limit the spread of the disease.
This is the second known case in Canada after dermo was found in New Brunswick two weeks ago.
