The provincial government is projecting a ballooning deficit. In its first update since the budget was tabled in February, the deficit is expected to hit $1.2 billion for 2025-26. That’s up from the original projection of $697 million.  John Lohr, the Minister of Finance and Treasury Board, says continued spending on healthcare and affordability measures as well as investments in schools, hospitals, and public housing, has led to the increase. He cited a challenging global economic environment that isn’t helping to mitigate expenses.
