Oland Brewery says a possible rate hike in water rates by Halifax Water may force the company to look at other locations. The company's general manager penned a letter to the Nova Scotia Regulatory and Appeals Board and called the hike unjustifiable. He says the “cost of doing business is simply becoming more expensive,” also referencing high power rates, increasing natural gas prices and high corporate taxes as other obstacles for the brewer. The rate hikes proposed by Halifax Water, if approved, would see rates increase by 16.2 per cent in 2025-2026 and by 17.6 per cent in 2026-2027.
