Nova Scotia continues to have the lowest unemployment rate in Atlantic Canada. According to Statistics Canada, the jobless rate fell slightly in August to 6.5 per cent, down from seven per cent in July. Newfoundland and Labrador has the highest unemployment rate in Atlantic Canada at 10.7 per cent. Nationally, the unemployment rate rose to 7.1 per cent as the country’s economy lost 66,000 jobs. Stats Can says the majority of jobs lost were part-time.
