Curling legend Colleen Jones has died at the age of 65 after a battle with cancer. In a social media post her family said she passed away late Tuesday morning, surrounded by family, “while looking out on the ocean from her favourite spot in Mader’s Cove.” She won two world curling championships and was a six-time Canadian women’s champion and played in more Scotties Tournament of Hearts than any other curler in Canadian history. Jones also broke barriers in broadcasting, becoming the first female sports anchor in Halifax and went on to spend 40 years with the CBC as a reporter and host. In 2022, she was appointed to the Order of Canada in recognition of her trailblazing for women in sport and broadcasting. In June, she was inducted into the Nova Scotia Sport Hall of Fame as an individual athlete after being inducted in 2011 along with her teammates. She is survived by her husband, two sons and one grandchild.
