All provincial departments have been told they must look for Nova Scotia timber, wood pellets and other local wood products. The government says it is leading by example by using more local wood products for construction. Departments will prioritize wood products in new construction, renovations and conversions from oil heat. They will also make it a priority, where applicable, in projects that are partially or completely funded by the government. Already, 20 public buildings are using wood heat.
