The Municipality of the District of Lunenburg (MODL) is set to distribute 1,000 trees to residents this September as part of its Local Climate Change Action Plan 2030. This initiative, which aims to plant 10,000 trees by the end of the decade, encourages residents to contribute to creating a greener community.
Residents of MODL can collect up to four trees per household on a first-come, first-served basis. The tree giveaway event will take place at the Municipal Activity and Recreation Complex (MARC), located at 33 Leary Fraser Road in Dayspring, on September 14 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., with a rain date scheduled for September 15 at the same time.
“By prioritizing the planting of 1,000 trees in 2024, the Municipality is making strides toward its long-term environmental goals,” said Mayor Carolyn Bolivar-Getson. She highlighted that planting trees is a significant step in combating climate change and enhancing community well-being, noting the many benefits trees provide, including improved air quality, increased biodiversity, and the beautification of local environments.
This tree distribution event is one of several steps the Municipality is taking to meet its environmental targets, inviting all MODL residents to participate in building a greener future.
