The District of Lunenburg is taking measures to save hemlock trees within the municipality. The invasive hemlock woolly adelgid (a-DELL-jid) has been identified in the municipality. The species has a 90 to 95 per cent mortality rate in Eastern Hemlocks within four to 15 years of detection. The conservation team will start their efforts in River Ridge Common on Monday, January 27th. While the area is closed for the winter the district says yellow and green ribbons are being tied to hemlocks for measurement and treatment and staff ask that the ribbons are not removed.
