The Town of Mahone Bay is now under a mandatory water restriction for everyone on town water. The mandatory restriction has been put in place because of low water levels in the Oakland Lake watershed, and no substantial rain forecast to replenish the water supply. Officials say after two months of encouraging voluntary water conservation, the town has not seen much change.
What is restricted under the mandatory water restriction:
Using garden hoses or sprinklers to water lawns, flowers, or trees
Bathing or washing pets outdoors
Washing driveways, decks, siding, or vehicles
Filling swimming pools or hot tubs
Exception: You may water edible gardens (with a watering can) between 6 p.m. and 8 a.m. when it will do the most good.
Anyone who breaks these rules may get a fine or have their water service suspended, in accordance with the Water Conservation Directives in the Nova Scotia Utility and Review Board Orders for Mahone Bay. The restrictions will stay in place until further notice.
