A 21-year-old Springfield man faces charges after a Lunenburg District RCMP vehicle was hit during a traffic stop. On Friday evening, an officer was eastbound on Highway 3 when a vehicle pulled out abruptly in front of him without yielding to the cruiser. The car then swerved, hit the right shoulder, and crossed the centre line. The officer tried to stop the driver, but he didn’t stop and took off. For public safety, the officer did not pursue the vehicle. Officers then spotted the vehicle pulled over on the shoulder on Highway 103. An officer stopped a cruiser in front of the vehicle, and the driver slowly accelerated and hit the cruiser. The driver was arrested. Officers saw open alcohol in the car and suspected the driver was impaired. A roadside breath sample registered a fail. The driver faces driving-related Criminal Code charges and was issued several tickets. He has a future court date.
