For the first time in eight years, a Canadian Prime Minister will meet face-to-face with China’s President. Mark Carney will meet with President Xi Jinping this week. In a trip widely touted as a first step in repairing the relationship between the two countries, trade and energy will be high on the agenda. China has slapped Canada with 25 per cent tariffs on seafood, pork and canola in retaliation for Canada’s tariffs on Chinese EVs. Taking part in the talks is Canada’s federal Minister of Agriculture, Heath MacDonald, who is from PEI, and parliamentary secretary Kody Blois from Nova Scotia.
