Northern Pulp has been given a five-week extension from the province to continue working on a plan to build a kraft paper mill in Liverpool. The government says the company has not reached the financial threshold to support the project. The company filed for creditor protection in 2020 when it closed its plant in Abercrombie Point after failing to meet environmental requirements for a new effluent treatment plant. The province and parent company Paper Excellence reached a settlement agreement last year.
