That pinch in your pocketbook at the grocery store isn’t your imagination. According to Statistics Canada food prices shot up nationally an average of 5.7 per cent in February with the largest spike in the Maritimes.  Here in Nova Scotia prices jumped 8.5 per cent, followed by PEI and New Brunswick. Beef striploin, beef ribs, and stewing beef saw prices jump the most followed by whole chickens and coffee. On the flip side cantaloupes, olive oil and oranges were all cheaper than a year ago.
