Fire Danger in Lunenburg County

Tuesday, August 26, 2025 at 3:03 PM

Thanks to the quick action of residents, a potential forest fire in Lunenburg County has been avoided. Just after 9:00 on Sunday evening, firefighters responded to a call in Hebbs Cross, where citizens had spotted a ditch fire spreading toward the forest and up a tree. They used a fire extinguisher to put the fire out. Hebbs Cross firefighters made sure the fire was properly extinguished. Officials suspect a tossed lit cigarette started the fire. Residents are reminded of the tinder dry conditions and are being asked to use common sense, stay out of the woods, put cigarette butts out properly and don’t have any fires of any kind.
