The Canadian Taxpayers Federation is slamming the federal gun ban and buyback program after only 25 firearms were confiscated in Cape Breton. According to the federation the federal government had hoped to receive 200 firearms. A spokesperson says the pilot project “cost a lot of money but only picked up a fraction of the guns projected.” The federation is calling on Ottawa to “own up to its failure” and redirect resources to stop illegal gun smuggling instead of “confiscating guns from licensed gun owners.” In a media release the federal government does say that several lessons were learned during the pilot project and will be put into action before the national rollout of the program.
