"Fatbergs" of Lunenburg

Tuesday, March 11, 2025 at 8:17 AM

A literal housekeeping note from the town of Lunenburg. Officials are asking residents to dispose of cooking fats, oil and grease in green bins or compost carts. The town says disposing of these down your kitchen drain causes “fatbergs” that block sewer infrastructure and cost everyone’s tax dollars to repair. The grease and fat harden when they cool and stick to the inside of sewer pipes. Examples of regular by-products of cooking that should never be poured down a drain include cooking oils, meat fats, dairy products, sauces & dressings, butter and lard.
