Bridgewater’s Mayor has responded to concerns about Cedar Place, operated by the John Howard Society. In a lengthy social media post, Mayor David Mitchell acknowledges the concerns of residents and businesses that have been brought forward, including drug use, intimidation of people, disruption of traffic, and increasing thefts and vandalism. Mitchell says council has acted to address the issues, including revoking their property tax exemption and changing zoning regulations, which will address future uses and required permissions. The mayor says while he and the community are empathetic to the needs and struggles people face, ultimately the ability to do something about it rests with the John Howard Society and the provincial government. He asks residents to reach out to the MLA’s office and “respectfully voice your concerns”. The Go Rock newsroom has reached out to the John Howard Society for comment, but has not had a response.
