As the weather warms up, the province is warning residents of the hazards of blue-green algae. It is found in freshwater lakes and ponds. It can take various forms, often looking like pea soup, spilled paint, fine grass clippings, or a thick scum on the water’s surface. It can cause itchy eyes and skin, and swallowing it can cause headaches, stomach pain, vomiting, and diarrhea. It can be fatal to pets.
