While we’re used to the usual spring price creep, this isn't just "seasonal." This spike is tied directly to the escalating situation in Iran and the uncertainty gripping the global energy market this week.
The Breakdown: What’s Happening in Iran?
Following the joint military strikes over the weekend, the situation in Iran has moved from tension to full-scale volatility. The primary concern for us here in Lunenburg County isn't the distance, it's the geography.
Roughly 20% of the world’s oil passes through the Strait of Hormuz off the coast of Iran. When tankers are deterred from entering that waterway due to conflict, the global supply of oil shrinks instantly. Even though we produce our own oil in Canada, the price we pay at the pump in Bridgewater is set on that same global market. When the world panics about Iran, we pay for it at the pump.
The Real Cost for the South Shore
For those of us commuting from New Germany to Bridgewater or hauling gear down the 103 in a pickup, a 9-cent jump means an extra $5 to $8 every time you fill up. Over a month, that’s a couple of cases of beer or a nice meal out at a local spot in Mahone Bay gone just to keep the wheels turning.
At 107.9 Go Rock, we aren't just here to play music; we are here to be your "Dashboard Advocate." While the corporate stations might give you a 10-second blurb, we live on these roads with you.
This is why our content focuses on YOU!
As the only locally owned station in the county, we don't answer to a head office in New Brunswick. We answer to you. Our job is to cut through the noise and explain how something on the other side of the world affects your bank account.
We know you work hard for your paycheck. This isn't just "international news". It’s a direct tax on your workday. Whether you’re heading to the woods, the wharf, or the office, we’ll be keeping you updated on the air and online.
