When the News Hits the Hallway: Protecting the Future of our Schools

When news like this breaks here, it doesn’t just stay on the police blotter; it hits you right in the chest the next time you drive past the school.

There are days when being a "local" station is about celebrating our wins, and then there are days like today, when the responsibility feels a lot heavier.

A Threat Beyond the Headlines

As many of you have heard through the Bridgewater Police Service and the RCMP, a 15-year-old from our community is facing very serious charges, including conspiracy to commit murder. This wasn’t just a localized incident; it involved an investigation that stretched from the FBI and INTERPOL to a youth in Manitoba.

The details are chilling: a discussed plan for a violent attack at Park View Education Centre. While the police have made it clear they don’t believe there was an immediate threat to safety, the reality that "thought and planning" were involved is enough to shake any parent or student to the core.

The "Why" Behind the Hard Conversations

You might wonder why 107.9 Go Rock, a station usually focused on the best music and high-energy local events, is pausing to talk about conspiracy charges and youth court.

The answer is simple: Because we live here too.

  • The "Panther" Family: Park View isn’t just a building; it’s where our kids spend their days. It’s the home of the Panthers, a place of learning, and a cornerstone of our town. When that safety is questioned, it’s not just "news", it’s personal.

  • The Reliable Anchor: As your independent local voice, we have a duty to provide the facts when the rumours start flying. We aren't here to sensationalize; we are here to ensure you know that the agencies involved did their jobs to keep our hallways safe.

Where Do We Go From Here?

In the coming days, as the teen appears in youth court, there will be a lot of talk and a lot of questions. Our request to the Go Rock family is simple: Check in on your kids. In a digital world where threats can cross borders in seconds, the best defense we have is an open conversation at that same kitchen table we always talk about.

We want to extend a massive thank you to the Bridgewater Police and the RCMP for their vigilance. It’s their work and the global cooperation of the FBI and INTERPOL, that ensures we can keep the music playing today.

We are proud to be your independent voice, and today, we stand firmly with the students, staff, and families of Park View.

Stay vigilant, look out for one another, and keep it tuned to the heart of the South Shore.
