Premier Tim Houston has issued a statement on U.S. President Donald Trump’s reciprocal tariff announcement.

Canada escaped the worst of the tariffs but still faces a 25 percent tariff on Canadian-made vehicles.

Houston says thousands of Nova Scotians will be impacted, but the province will continue to support individuals and businesses. He says that could mean loans, grants and support for diversification. In the meantime, Houston says the initial non-tariff retaliatory measures will remain.

The increased tolls at the Cobequid Pass for commercial vehicles from the U.S. will still be in place and American alcohol will remain off the shelves of the Nova Scotia Liquor Corp. stores. Houston also acknowledged how the uncertainty has been a huge drain on the mental health of Canadians, and thousands of Nova Scotians are exhausted from the stress of dealing with this uncertainty and instability. He vowed the province will do whatever it takes to protect residents.
