Only 189 people with disabilities have been moved from large institutions and into smaller homes in the community. In a progress report today, the province says that’s only two-thirds of the goal they had set for this spring. In 2021 the Nova Scotia Court of Appeal ruled the province was systemically discriminating against people with disabilities and ordered it to make reforms. Staffing challenges were cited for the delays, but a spokesperson says its five-year plan is gaining momentum.
